University Sains Malaysia (USM) archaeological team moving away two very fragile 200 years old cannons unearthed on March 27th, 2018.
On last February 19th, 2018, USM archaeological team found two cannons at main door of 232 years old Fort Cornwallis, George Town Penang. These cannons is believed to be over 200 years old, weighing approximately 1.5 (or 1500kg) tonnes each.
These two historical cannons were lifted using a crane and placed on custom-made trolleys, to transport to permanent USM Centre for Global Archaeological Research for conservation and research purposes.
Inscription on one of these old cannons is believed dated back to the reign of King George III (1760-1820). With these cannons, early understanding about Fort Cornwallis as a peaceful historical British fort could be of somewhat inaccurate.

Update: Short after on February 26th to 28th, undergraduates in USM Archaeological team found nine other cannonballs at the same trench. One cannonball measures about 10cm in diameter, others are between 3cm to 6cm.
